Gavin Mesa showed a strong eye at the plate on Thursday, as Gavin Mesa walked four times while leading Derby Twins to a 9-4 victory over Hutchinson Monarchs.

Derby Twins opened the scoring in the second after Brady Skinner doubled, scoring two runs.

Derby Twins added one run in the third after Jude Almaraz grounded out.

Hutchinson Monarchs scored one run in the bottom of the sixth on a solo home run to left field by Drew Bugner.

Ian Carlson started on the bump for Derby Twins. The starter gave up five hits and three runs (two earned) over five and two-thirds innings, striking out six and walking three. Cooper Harris stepped on the mound first for Hutchinson Monarchs. The starting pitcher gave up four hits and three runs over three innings, striking out two and walking two. Beau Sweeney pitched two innings of zero-run ball for Derby Twins in relief. The lefty gave up one hit, striking out none and walking none.

Derby Twins tallied 11 hits in the game. Noah Allison, Jude Almaraz, and Gavin Mesa each collected two hits for Derby Twins. Jude Almaraz, Brit Vick, and Brady Skinner each drove in two runs for Derby Twins. Gavin Mesa led Derby Twins with four walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating 12 walks for the game. Derby Twins turned two double plays in the game.

Hutchinson Monarchs collected 10 hits in the game. Michael Barham drove the middle of the lineup, leading Hutchinson Monarchs with three runs batted in. The infielder went 2-for-5 on the day. Nash Wray, Michael Barham, and Wes Baker each collected two hits for Hutchinson Monarchs. Hutchinson Monarchs turned two double plays in the game.
