Gavin Mesa showed a strong eye at the plate on Wednesday, as Gavin Mesa walked three times while leading Derby Twins to a 10-5 victory over Great Bend Bat Cats.
Derby Twins got on the board in the first inning after Gavin Mesa homered to left field, scoring two runs.
Derby Twins added two runs in the third. Jude Almaraz doubled to center field, making the score 4-0.
Andrugh Yee hit a solo home run to center field in the top of the eighth for the Great Bend Bat Cats.
Derby Twins scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth on a home run to left field by Noah Allison on the sixth pitch of the at-bat.
Logan McGuire stepped on the hill first for Derby Twins. The right-handed pitcher gave up zero hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out four and walking one. Jacob Field led things off on the mound for Great Bend Bat Cats. The pitcher surrendered five hits and four runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out five and walking three. AJ Bekedam pitched two innings of no-run ball for Derby Twins in relief. The reliever gave up one hit, striking out none and walking one.
Derby Twins collected 10 hits in the game. Jude Almaraz, Derby Twins’s number seven hitter, led the team with three hits in four at-bats. Noah Allison led Derby Twins with three runs batted in. The infielder went 1-for-4 on the day. Landon Blais collected two hits for Derby Twins in four at bats. Derby Twins had patience at the plate, piling up 10 walks for the game. Spencer Simpson and Gavin Mesa led the team with three bases on balls each. Derby Twins ran wild on the base paths, tallying four stolen bases for the game. Derby Twins turned one double play in the game. Derby Twins were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Mason Wisnieski had the most chances in the field with eight.
Andrugh Yee drove the middle of the lineup, leading Great Bend Bat Cats with two runs batted in. The infielder went 2-for-5 on the day. Great Bend Bat Cats had a strong eye at the plate, piling up seven walks for the game. Peanut Brazzle and Jaxon Bunkers led the team with two free passes each.
