Brady Skinner hit two home runs and drove in four, but Derby Twins lost to Kansas Cannons 14-11 on Sunday at 200 N Woodlawn Blvd. Brady Skinner homered in the third and fifth innings.
Despite the loss, Derby Twins did collect 10 hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Kansas Cannons had 13 hits on the way to victory.
Kansas Cannons got on the board in the second inning after Beau Sweeney induced Drew Becker to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored.
Mason Wisnieski homered to left field, which helped Derby Twins tie the game at one in the bottom of the second.
A single by Thatcher Baughman gave Kansas Cannons the lead, 2-1, in the top of the third.
Derby Twins took the lead in the bottom of the third. Brady Skinner homered to center field, scoring three runs, to give Derby Twins the lead, 4-2.
Kansas Cannons captured the lead, 6-4, in the top of the fourth when Colton Petersmith doubled, scoring two runs, Finn Kaiyala grounded out, scoring one run, and Thatcher Baughman drew a walk, scoring one run.
Brady Skinner hit a solo home run to right field in the bottom of the fifth for the Derby Twins.
Kansas Cannons scored five runs on five hits in the top of the sixth inning. Finn Kaiyala homered to center field, scoring three runs, Fernando Jorge singled, scoring one run, and Drew Becker hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.
Derby Twins tied the game in the bottom of the seventh thanks to a home run to left field by Noah Brocklebank, a home run to right field by Spencer Simpson, and an error.
A home run to right field by Drew Becker gave Kansas Cannons the lead, 14-11, in the top of the eighth.
Jackson Witt earned the win for Kansas Cannons. The hurler allowed zero hits and zero runs over three innings, striking out five and walking one. Caleb Coats took the loss for Derby Twins. The right-handed pitcher went one and one-third innings, allowing three runs on two hits, striking out one and walking two. Beau Sweeney started on the hill for Derby Twins. The southpaw allowed six hits and six runs (five earned) over four innings, striking out three and walking four. Danik Reed led things off on the mound for Kansas Cannons. The right-handed pitcher allowed four hits and five runs over five innings, striking out five and walking five.
Derby Twins accumulated 10 hits in the game. Derby Twins had patience at the plate, amassing eight walks for the game. Noah Allison and Landon Blais led the team with two walks each.
Kansas Cannons amassed 13 hits in the game. Colton Petersmith went 3-for-6 at the plate to lead Kansas Cannons in hits. Finn Kaiyala and Drew Becker each drove in four runs for Kansas Cannons. Zach Makarewich collected two hits for Kansas Cannons in five at bats. Colton Petersmith stole two bases. Kansas Cannons worked the count all day, accumulating six walks. Kansas Cannons turned two double plays in the game.
The last two makeup games with Haysville have been cancelled since the Twins didn’t receive a bid to the NBC World Series.
