Derby Twins’s effort to come back from down four runs in the fourth inning came up just short, as they fell 5-4 to Hutchinson Monarchs on Friday at 200 S Woodlawn Blvd. Derby Twins closed the gap by scoring on a single and a sacrifice fly.

Derby Twins got on the board in the first inning after Jude Almaraz lined out, scoring one run.

Hutchinson Monarchs jumped into the lead in the top of the third when Jaden Gustafson singled, scoring two runs, and Jackson Harding hit into a double play, but one run scored.

Gabe Winans earned the win for Hutchinson Monarchs. The starting pitcher gave up three hits and one run over five innings, striking out five and walking three. Dylan Hunsaker took the loss for Derby Twins. The starter went three innings, allowing five runs on four hits, striking out five and walking five. Kale Day earned the save.

Josh Weaver led Derby Twins with two runs batted in. The second baseman went 1-for-3 on the day. Spencer Simpson, Dawson Robbins, Mason Wisnieski, Josh Weaver, and Gavin Mesa each collected one hit for Derby Twins. Gavin Mesa led Derby Twins with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing seven walks for the game. Derby Twins turned two double plays in the game.

Jaden Gustafson drove the middle of the lineup, leading Hutchinson Monarchs with two runs batted in. The left-handed hitter went 1-for-2 on the day. Drew Bugner went 3-for-6 at the plate to lead Hutchinson Monarchs in hits. Hutchinson Monarchs had a strong eye at the plate, collecting eight walks for the game. James Dagenhart and Jackson Schanuel led the team with two bases on balls each. Carter Hepner stole two bases. Hutchinson Monarchs stole six bases in the game.
