Derby Twins built a 4-run lead in the fifth inning and then held off Junction City Brigade’s charge for a 4-3 victory on Saturday. Junction City Brigade closed the gap by scoring on a walk, a double, and a double.
Derby Twins opened the scoring in the second after Mason Wisnieski doubled, scoring one run.
Javier Rodriguez hit a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the third for the Derby Twins.
Mekai Gallien earned the win for Derby Twins. The righty gave up one hit and zero runs over five innings, striking out six and walking four. Jaxxen Gillett took the loss for Junction City Brigade. The hurler went four innings, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out one and walking one. Peyton Wells collected the save. Beau Sweeney appeared in relief for Derby Twins.
Derby Twins collected nine hits in the game. Mason Wisnieski led Derby Twins with three hits in four at bats. Spencer Simpson, Javier Rodriguez, Mason Wisnieski, and Landon Blais each drove in one run for Derby Twins. Derby Twins turned two double plays in the game. Derby Twins were sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Landon Sandy made the most plays with nine.
Brayden Harpole led Junction City Brigade with two runs batted in from the number seven spot in the lineup. The first baseman went 1-for-3 on the day. Hayden Oviatt and Chad Pantuso each collected two hits for Junction City Brigade. Hayden Oviatt paced Junction City Brigade with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating eight walks for the game. Junction City Brigade turned one double play in the game. Junction City Brigade didn’t commit a single error in the field. Dalton Jorgensen had the most chances in the field with seven.
