The bottom of the lineup helped Derby Twins capture an 8-6 victory over Newton Rebels on Thursday at 200 N Woodlawn Blvd. Hayden Hernandez, Javier Rodriguez, and Dawson Robbins combined for five of the team’s nine hits in the victory. They scored four runs and drove in four.

Newton Rebels got on the board in the top of the second inning after Jace Brunswig doubled, Brayden Meade grounded out, and Samuel Benz lined out, each scoring one run.

Derby Twins captured the lead, 4-3, in the bottom of the fourth after Hayden Hernandez singled to center field, Javier Rodriguez walked, Spencer Simpson walked, and Gerado Prado hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run.

Preston Carillo singled to center field, which helped Newton Rebels tie the game at six in the top of the seventh.

Derby Twins took the lead in the bottom of the seventh. Javier Rodriguez grounded out, scoring one run, to give Derby Twins the leg up, 7-6.

AJ Bekedam earned the win for Derby Twins. The hurler surrendered zero hits and zero runs over two and one-third innings, striking out five and walking none. Erik Tapia took the loss for Newton Rebels. The starter went three and one-third innings, allowing four runs on four hits, striking out three and walking one. Dylan Hunsaker started on the hill for Derby Twins. The starting pitcher surrendered one hit and three runs over four innings, striking out three and walking seven. Beau Sweeney appeared in relief for Derby Twins.

Derby Twins tallied nine hits in the game. Hayden Hernandez and Dawson Robbins were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for Derby Twins while hitting back-to-back. Javier Rodriguez led Derby Twins with three runs batted in from the number nine spot in the lineup. The shortstop went 1-for-2 on the day. Derby Twins had patience at the plate, collecting eight walks for the game. Gavin Mesa and Javier Rodriguez led the team with two bases on balls each. Derby Twins turned one double play in the game.

Preston Carillo went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Newton Rebels in hits. Brayden Meade, Preston Carillo, Brenden Doile, Samuel Benz, and Jace Brunswig each drove in one run for Newton Rebels. Danny Balderas paced Newton Rebels with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, collecting seven walks for the game.
