Michael Irquidi's leadoff home run on the first pitch of the game set the tone for a 12 hit, 5 run showing for the Derby Twins in game two of their double-header against El Dorado as the Twins salvaged a split in the twin-bill with a 5-2 win in the nightcap.
El Dorado starting pitcher Mitch McIntyre limited the Twins to just 3 hits in 6 innings of shut out ball in the first game of the night for a 6-0 El Dorado victory.
However in the second game, Derby had three hits by the end of the first half inning and already scored a run on the Irquidi homer.
Derby added two more in the third inning on back to back rbi singles by Jacob Means and Tyler Myers and the 3 runs were enough for the win as four Twins pitchers held El Dorado to 2 runs on 6 hits while striking out 12. Nick Skeffington got the win in the second game while Matthew Dallas picked up the save.
The Twins lost a game to first place Liberal in the Jayhawk League standings as the BeeJays swept Haysville in their Wednesday doubleheader, so Derby starts play Thursday 3 and a half games back of Liberal as the Twins battle with Hays and Dodge City for a closely contested second place.
The Twins wrap up their four game series with El Dorado Thursday night at 7 o'clock back at Panther Field.
